Tehri Dam

Tehri Dam is the highest dam in India & 8th highest dam in the world.Tehri Dam is located on the Bhagirathi River near Tehri inUttarakhand, India.It's a multi - purpose rock and earth - fill embankment Dam.It is the primary Dam of the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Ltd. & the Tehri Hydroelectric Complex.Dam has a capacity for generation of 1,000 megawatts(1,300,000 hp) of hydroelectricity. The Scheduling and Despatch of the Tehri Hydro Power plant is done by Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre which is the apex body to ensure the integrated operation of the power system grid in the Northern region and comes under Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO).

SURKANDA TEMPLE Situated near Dhanaulti, Sukanda Devi Temple is perched at an exhilarating altitude of 3030m above the sea level. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Sati and is approachable by an easy trek of about 2 kms.The temple attracts large number of devotees throughout the year. Apart from the religious aspect, the trek itself is quite full of natures bounty. Enriched in flora and fauna, the trail offers splendid view of Himalayas and has a beautiful effect of tranquility about it. One of the most persistent mythologies concerning the origin of worship at the site is associated with the myth of Sati, who was the wife of the ascetic god Shiva and daughter of the Puranic god-king Daksha. Daksha was unhappy with his daughter's choice of husband.

Devprayag is situated above sea level at an elevation of about 475 mts, and lies right at the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi River. Although Devprayag is the last prayag (confluence) of the river Alaknanda, following which the confluence of this river and the river Bhagirathi is known as Ganga. Devprayag is situated on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway, at a distance of 71 kms from Rishikesh. Devprayag is the home of priests of Badrinath. They are known as "Pandas".
